CYPRECO is televising on WNYE Channel 25 in New York a new series of original documentaries within the weekly broadcasts of AKTINA TV airing every Sunday from 6:00pm to 7:00pm. The documentaries which are part of the established series, "Greek Horizons," offer an in-depth look at the rich history and vibrant culture of Greece from ancient times to present. They are presented as part of CYPRECO's ongoing mission of servicing and helping Greek and Greek Cypriot American immigrants preserve their unique cultural heritage and history. At the same time, we also aim to help members of our wide and diverse audience gain deeper understanding and insights about the cultural identity of their fellow Greek and Greek Cypriot Americans who are also part of New York's multi-ethnic society. We strongly believe that people who understand each other's history and culture can better tolerate one another and co-exist together more harmonious.
Greece, the birthplace of democracy, Western philosophy and of the first European alphabet, is a place unlike any other. The stories of ancient Greece, its myths and philosophical ideas have shaped our modern world. Each documentary uncovers a different topic and all together form a very unique visual journey which explores and illustrates with comprehensive and engaging narrative as well as with interviews with scholars, the rich history and culture of Greece from antiquity to present. Some documentaries focus on various remarkable Greek ancient monuments, archaeological sites, the birth of the Parthenon, mythology, the breathtaking landscapes and picturesque islands with their exceptional architecture. Others on the intellectual and cultural advancements that laid the foundation for much of Western thought, science and art thanks to the remarkable accomplishments and contributions of prominent ancient Greek individuals such as philosophers, statesmen, mathematicians, physicists, astronomers, inventors and engineers.
The captivating subjects of these documentaries are both informative and entertaining. Over all, watching them, one can discover the fascinating past to further appreciate and understand the span of ancient Greece from start to present and more importantly, the significant accomplishments of the Greeks which have both influenced modern society and contributed to Western civilization as we know it today.
